At first I figured that even if it was handing the palestinians a short term victory and uprooting thousands of Israelis the withdrawal must make some kind of overall strategic sense or Sharon wouldn't be doing it. I'm beginning to seriously doubt that, that is true and think maybe Sharon was just giving in to pressure when he shouldn't have.
